There was a great article in The NonProfit Times last month about what the Aspen Institute has done in the redesign of their new site. It seems they had similar organizational issues in the architecture and navigation that we do.
Check out Aspen Institute's new page, then see what it used to look like. Quite an improvement. Note how the terms used in the left-hand navigation have changes. Much more general, and categorized using the simplest terms. Clicking on a topic give you more specific information to the topic rather than having to guess what each term means.
Our organization runs into this all the time--is it a division, technical division, secretariat? What do these terms mean to our members, or how about potential members? When designing our pages, we need to label our activities and programs in the most intuitive way.
